Li-ion, Ni-Mh and Alkaline Batteries
Li-Ion (Lithium Ion) is the latest battery technology and has until recently only been available outside of laptop and mobile phone batteries. It offers the ultimate in weight, volume and capacity ratio and has no memory effect.
18650 cells are the perfect Li-Ion cell for portable lighting and are now slowly becoming available in the UK, and are replacing the smaller CR123a cells which were originally designed for film cameras. A typical rechargeable CR123a cell holds only 1.8 Watt-Hours (600mah x 3v) whereas a typical 18650 cell holds 9 Watt-Hours (2500mah x 3.7v), which is five times as much.
Our 18650 cells also feature integrated protection circuits that don't allow it to over charge or over discharge - greatly improving the life-expectancy of the cell.
